  Vegetarian poke with a pokéstop. Who could ask for more? Along with the tofu, they have a variety of fishy animal protein and a pokégym next door at Thanks For Vaping.
  
  The vegetables are fresh, the people are friendly, and the A/C works. Poke is an excellent idea for healthier fast food. Looking at the clientele makes me think I should come here more often. Everyone looks like a marathon runner or rock climber just out of puberty. The least healthy things in the menu could compete with Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig.
  
  This is a great place for a tasty and healthy meal.

  So this place is super hit and miss for me.
  Sometime the fish is sorta fresh sometimes it's clearly old. Sometimes the seaweed salad is good, sometimes it's got a moldy/odd smell to it like it was sitting out all night but instead of tossing it, they continued to serve it..
  The same can be said about the crab salad, which on some days smells like a dirty trash can and again feels like it was left out over night and served. Also something is up with the masago, because sometimes it's really rubbery, which is not normal. I would call my self an expert on poke bowl and building and I have been to every poke place in San Antonio compared to poke works in la cantera this place is barely hitting 3 stars. This place lacks the quality that most the places I've been to have. Excluding poke central which has this same exact problem and smells like old feet. Yeah sometimes it's a hit   However most times it's a miss. If you just wants something quick and you are in this area I guess it's okay, as long as you stay away from the above items. I'm going to tell you right now if the place smells like fish, or has a fishy oder then this means the fish is not fresh. I would say 6 out of 10 times I've gone here it smells fishy. This in general is not a good sign and that goes for any sushi , poke, fish serving places. I can only give my own experience here, however the problems listed above will have to change before I come here again. Even then I might just hit la cantera.

  Been here about 5-6 times.
  
  What I love: great healthy options. In the world of fast-food and convenience, this is where I stop when I want something good for me.
  
  I have two bones of contention with Hula Poke.
  
  1) Inconsistent amounts of food. I don't add lots of ingredients. I want about 5-6 things. What that means, I don't get as much for my money. It's not like they say, "let me add more of the ingredients you love to get you a proper meal." They just charge you the same amount as someone who packs everything on. So, if you have more straight forward tastes like I do, you get a smaller meal but pay full price.
  
  2) This is my major contention...being asked to tip at the register. Come on. What am I tipping? This isn't a high end coffee shop. Chipotle and Salata have the exact same approach to serving food and they don't ask for tips. It feels greedy. It puts me off every time I come here.
  
  If they could solve those those issues, this could be a great place to frequent.

  I've only been here twice but so far everything I've got tasted good. I always get the sushi burrito and I will say I am kinda a basic person when it comes to what add ins I do. Simply because I don't want a whole mess of flavors that I can't tell what is what. I usually get a three protein burrito (salmon, tuna, unagi) and add cucumber and masago. That's it. They always look at me like I'm crazy but I want the clean taste of fish, rice, and seaweed. I guess the simplicity of what I had in Japan has stuck with me. Other times I'll add in some picked daikon and jalapeños which is also super tasty. Sometimes the most simple things are the best tasting.

  The Hula Poke In Dezavala is my favorite go to for poke bowls. I wanted to check out the second Hula Poke location to see if the standards are up to par with the original location... here goes my pros and cons.
  
  Pros:
  *Staff was friendly.
  *Service was right on
  *Had the same Add-Ons in poke bowls as the original location.
  * had complimentary lemon water-self serve same as first location
  * price is the same
  * similar layout as first location
  
  Cons:
  * Place seems smaller than original
  * toppings: The lotus chips was soggy and not crispy  like the normal lotus chips I usually add at the Dezavala location.
  * the vibe was not the same
  * the pickled daikon tasted strange
  
  I am a fan of Hula Poke and its always my hotspot to go grab a fresh bowl of poke for sushi craving. The soggy stale lotus chips was a no go for me. No one should ever eat soggy stale chips and the staff should know it's stale when they pick it up with their hands to serve. For that reason I rated 3 stars. I don't know if I came on a bad day but I will come check out this location again in the future for a second opinion. Will change my review as deem fitted.
